So we decided we HAD to have a turkey bowl for Thanksgiving weekend so the time and date was set for Saturday at noon. Everyone showed up at lunch in their football attire, we ate some food, and headed out to the field…only to find it not ready to be played on because it has been under construction along with the track that surrounds it. You may wonder how we knew it was out of bounds…well, there was a sign with Chinese characters that we obviously could not read. But, whoever made the sign must have known that we wanted to play some football because the sign also had drawings of grass on the bottom with crossed out footprints!
So we took the hint and headed to the big cement area in front of the school. A lot of us had black or blue shirts on so we used that to split up into teams. The black team consisted of Gen, Emily P, Caleb L, Sierra, Kim, Natasha, and Sara. The bleeding blue team (Go Cougs!) was made up of myself, Shantel, Emily H, Aimee, Caleb W, Ashley and Charlotte. We decided on the end zones and let the games begin!
We had such a blast. I was blocking Sierra when we were on the defense and she was so hilarious. Instead of running to an open spot to catch the ball she would start dancing around, no frolicking would be more like it, flailing her arms around over her head. She was saying that she was a great distraction to some of the blue team so her team could score and it’s true, it actually worked on me most of the time! She was cracking me up.
My team was actually losing horribly because Caleb L. was on the other team and he was forgetting he was playing with girls haha, but I didn’t care it was still fun. I was cheerin like a crazy person when we would score or someone would successfully finish a play. I jumped on Sierra’s back out of no where after the play had already ended and scared her half to death. Emily H is a die hard football fan so she was really into the game. Gen and Shantel were throwing passes like there was no tomorrow and Kim was playing even though she probably shouldn’t have been with her hurt ankle. We were all smack talkin each other in a completely joking manner and just had a blast.
Later that day Shantel, Aimee, Kim, Caleb, Sierra, and I went on a walk to the “ghetto”. There are some pretty run-down streets in China that can be pretty interesting to venture through so we decided we’d go meander through for the afternoon. Kim and Aimee had a few of the street vendor foods and we just looked around at the different shops. We weren’t scared for our lives whatsoever but the people in those areas definitely stare at you even longer than most Chinese people do just because it’s even more rare for them to see white people. The whole trip was about two hours since it’s kind of far away to walk but we had fun and got noodles at our favorite noodles and dumplings place and then watched Elf when we got back.
Gen taught the lesson in Sunday School today on family history and the rest of the afternoon has been filled with napping for Em, Gen, and Kim and emailing a bunch of people for myself. I have to say…I was on a role and just didn’t want to stop!
We’ll be making our weekly Sunday treat tonight which is always a highlight and then some Turbo Jam to make the night complete!
